Lead Elder – Pastor Sam and Carol Choi

Samuel, Carol and their two children (Karis 12 and Kaden 10) moved to Irvine in June 2012 to plant Center Church. Samuel has been in a pastoral ministry over 20 years. In 2009, Samuel planted the church that is now called Resurrection Church in Tacoma, WA. In 2013, Center Church started as a gospel-centered church committed to making disciples of Jesus and planting churches to seek God’s kingdom.

Interim Elder – Pastor Thien and Kerry Doan

Thien and Kerry live in Fountain Valley, CA, which is often referred to as “Little Saigon” due to its sizeable Vietnamese population. The Doans planted Citylights Church in Orange County, California in September 2011.

Elder – Russell and Katrina Henry


Russell Henry left Reno, NV in 2007 and moved to Orange County where he met his wife, Katrina. He runs a marketing and video production agency working with his wife solving creative challenges. They love the vision of Center church of continuing to plant churches and making everyday disciples.

Deacon – Joseph and Leah Abesamis


Joe is a licensed CPA who grew up in Orange County, where he attended Biola University, and later pursued further studies at Dallas Theological Seminary where he graduated with a Th.M in New Testament. Joe later married Leah in 2012 and have been called to serve at Center Church. They are excited to be on this journey of seeing a church grow for the purpose of God’s glory and our joy.

Deacon – Joanna Wong

Joanna describes herself as a “coffee-fueled wordsmith.”  By day, she teaches client interviewing skills to legal professionals and helps provide legal assistance to underserved populations who can’t afford attorneys.  On nights and weekends, she is a writer and editor, the Vice President of Public Relations for her local Toastmasters club, and a “Conversation Partner” for ImproveYourSocialSkills.com.

Joanna has been in ministry leadership since 2005, and is humbled and excited by this opportunity to serve Center Church.
